Lynally Church Wall Plaque

Description

Broken 18th century wall plaque inserted into the inner face at the western end of the northern wall of the medieval church ruins (OF016-031001-) at Lynally, County Offaly. Lynally monastery was founded here in the 6th century by Colmán Eala who died in 611 AD. Andrew Briscoe was descended from John Briscoe of Srah Castle (OF017-006001-), County Offaly, which stands 2.6km to the north-east of Lynally Church ruins. In 1775 Andrew Briscoe leased part of his lands in the townland of Ross, located 3km south of Lynally to Patrick Tanner.
