An Accurate and Efficient Radar Operator Designed for CMA-GFS / MESO with Capability of Simulating Non-spherical Hydrometeors
Creators
Description
An forward radar observation operator named as ZJU_AERO (Accurate and Efficient Radar Operator developed by Zhejiang University) supports state-of-the-art simulations of dual polarimetric radar observable variables, designed for CINRAD-98DP ground-based radars and space-borne radars such as GPM/DPR and FY3G/PMR. ZJU_AERO is featured with flexible user options and a multi-layer structure of LUT for scattering properties for nonspherical hydrometeors at S-, C-, X-, Ku- and Ka-bands.
Generally speaking, ZJU-AERO is a project written in python. Nevertheless, for those lower-level modules in the observation operator, the computational efficiency is crucial to enable its operational applications. Therefore, C-language extensions written by swig-c or cython is employed in this project to speed-up calculation and reduce the "overhead" of high-level programming language.
For further details of this observation operator, please refer to the user manual released with the package.
V0.6.0 Release Note:
1. Support melting layer simulation (see also updated user manual).
2. Support a pseudo-sampling method for antenna pattern integration at low-fix-elevation angles (see also updated user manual).
