Castell Y Blaidd, Llanbadarn Fynydd, Powys
Description
Castell Y Blaidd (Wolf's Castle) is a horseshoe-shaped enclosure of possible prehistoric or, more likely, medieval date. It is defended by an earthen bank and ditch with a slight counterscarp bank. The north west end of the enclosure is open towards the steepest side of the hill. The interior slopes to the north west. At the south east end there is a small level area tucked into the bank which may be a building platform. There are numerous early tracks crossing the ridge to the north and the enclosure may have been sited to control passage along the ridge. There is speculation that the enclosure defences were never finished and abandoned for another site.
The drone survey was completed to highlight areas of sheep and rabbit erosion on the scheduled monument.
