Description

The panel previously described as exhibiting a single cup-mark is a rough granite boulder of generally rectangular shape 1.1 by 0.53 by 0.64 M and lying at an angle of 30 degrees lies in a rough wooded pasture 5 M to the W of the B9126 road and to the N of the hamlet of Garlogie at NJ78968 05509. The boulder may well have been moved to its current location during previous field clearance activities. There are numerous clearance cairns in the area and the fields are surrounded by large dykes made up of large granite boulders. The 'cup mark' appears to be natural. The rough surface of the granite across the whole boulder matches the surface of the 'cup-mark'. Several other boulders in the vicinity previously described as being cup marked also appear to be just natural natural geological anomalies. e.g., several boulders at Meikle Eddieston previously described as cup marked.
