Neste trabalho buscamos analisar diferentes frases do guitarrista Allan Holdsworth em improvisações no tema Proto Cosmos. Foi utilizado como base de análise o método Just for the Curious (1993) que discute as concepções e escalas mais utilizadas pelo guitarrista durante a improvisação. Como referencial teórico nos embasamos no conceito de modelo de Nettl (1974, 2009) e nos conceitos de referente e base do conhecimento de Pressing (1984, 1988, 1998), além de estudos da área de improvisação musical que demonstram a importância do processo de transcrição de frases e solos como ferramenta de aprendizado da improvisação. Como resultado, foi possível mapear as diferentes escolhas melódicas de Holdsworth sobre um acorde menor.

Abstract (English)

In this work we seek to analyze different phrases by guitarist Allan Holdsworth in improvisations on the tune Proto Cosmos. The Just for the Curious method (1993) was used as a basis for analysis, which discusses the conceptions and scales most used by the guitarist during an improvisation. As a theoretical reference, we are based on the concept of model by Nettl (1974, 2009) and on the concepts of referent and knowledge base by Pressing (1984, 1988, 1998), in addition to studies in the area of musical improvisation that demonstrate the importance of the process of transcription of phrases and solos as a tool for learning improvisation. As a result, it was possible to map Holdsworth's different melodic choices over a minor chord.
