Sprag from Spa Wood Mine
Description
These were used as a brake for the mine tubs. Miners would throw this into the wheel spokes to stop the tubs - a very dangerous occupation if you liked to keep all your fingers! Sometimes a wooden shaft could be used but this all-metal sprag provided a better grip.
