Description

***Homo erectus*** Location: Zhou Xian, China. Age: 680,000-780,000 years B.P. Material: plaster cast. Dimensions: length, 214 mm; width, 149 mm; height, 130 mm. Notes: RLA catalog no. 1979rp44 (cast). Skull discovered between 1929 and 1936 in a cave near Zhou Xian, and lost during World War II. Cast is based on descriptions, photographs, sketches, and reconstructions by Davidson Black and Franz Weidenreich. Formerly classified as Sinanthropus pekinensis and Homo erectus pekinensis. Cast made by the University Museum of the University of Pennsylvania. From the teaching collection of the Research Laboratories of Archaeology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
