HIGH Postitorvi - Post horn

Postitorvea soitettiin yleensä ratsain liikkuvan postiljoonin tai postivaunujen saapumisen tai lähtemisen merkiksi. Postitorven merkitys käyttöesineenä väheni 1800-luvulla, mutta postin symbolina torvi säilyy edelleen. Torvi on annettu lahjaksi kapteeni Carl Korsmanille 1800-luvun lopulla. A post horn was used to signal the arrival or departure of a mounted postman or mail coach. The use of the post horn declined during the 19th century but its importance as a symbol of the post remains. This post horn is a gift from the Finnish postal administration to captain Carl Korsman and dates from the late 19th century. The steamboat "Express", owned by captain Korsman started carrying mail in the wintertime between Hanko and Stockholm in the 1870's.
