Description
Operophtera peninsularis Djakonov
(Fig. 45)
Operophtera peninsularis: Beljaev 1996: 38, 63 (Novoaleksandrovsk).
Material examined. 1 ♂, Leonidovo, 12.X.2009.
Distribution. Russia (RFE: Sakhalin, Kamchatka Peninsula, Okhotsk coast of Magadanskaya Oblast, Khabarovskii Krai, Amurskaya Oblast).
Remarks. The distribution of O. peninsularis in Sakhalin is confirmed. Before only two males of this species were known from the island, labeled as “Saghalien Central Exp. Sta. Konuma” [Novoaleksandrovsk], 21, 22.XI.1933 ” (Beljaev 1996). The new collecting locality is about 250 km northward of the previous one. Evidently, this species is widely spread in Sakhalin, except for possible the extreme south. In appearance, the moths are similar to Operophtera brunnea Nakajima, and can be distinguished for certain only by their genitalia. Kuzmin & Beljaev (2017) provided diagnostics of these species. The larvae are polyphagous on deciduous trees and shrubs.
