Species recognition. This species differs from the similar D. megobscena by the pattern of peglike setae on the posterior face of the hind femur, which is a ventral line and more distal group.

Description. Body length: 1.2 mm. Head: Frons brown, second row of setae straight. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, light brown. Palpus of normal size, yellow. Thorax: Scutum light brown. Scutellum light brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-third length of posterior seta. Pleuron light brown to yellowishbrown ventrally. Costa 0.55 wing length. Halter light brown. Legs mostly yellow. Forecoxa in lateral view yellow. Foretibia with 3 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres 1–4 enlarged, flattened. Midcoxa yellow. Hind coxa yellow. Hind coxal lobe light brown, round, elongate. Posterior face of hind femur with well-spaced, relatively long peglike setae in single ventral row and scattered, more dorsal loose group (Figs 45–46). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 brown, tergites 2–6 brown, with tergites 2 and 6 light brown anteriorly. Venter of abdomen whitish-yellow, with sparse setae. Male terminalia with epandrium light brown to yellow, hypandrium brown, cercus yellow.

Distribution. Known from a single site in Amazonian South America.

Derivation of specific epithet. From Latin words for large (bu -) and genitalia, referring to the enlarged male genitalia.

Holotype. ♂, COLOMBIA: Amazonas: Amacayacu NP, Matamata, 3.82°S, 70.26°W, 27.iii–3.iv.2000, A. Parente, Malaise trap CAP-78 [LACM ENT 073400] (IAVH).
