CLIMATOLOGICAL AND GEOMORPHOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF VITÓRIA DA CONQUISTA – BAHIA

This research aimed to show the climatological differences present in the municipality of Vitória da Conquista – BA, caused mainly by the topography and local geomorphology. For this purpose, a survey was carried out on the existing literature on regional geomorphology, precipitation and temperature data were collected at the Vitoria da Conquista meteorological station and at rain gauge stations in some parts of the municipality to show precipitation variations. Fieldwork was carried out to cover the three main geomorphological units and the three main climatic types, taking photographs of these locations. The results showed that the topography crossing the municipality in the NE-SW direction, perpendicular to the dominant air masses, has a strong influence on the average annual precipitation in some locations in the municipality. The east and southeast have higher precipitation, the center drops a little and the west is the least rainy area. It was also found that temperatures vary a lot due to differences in altitude, at the top of the Conquista plateau it is colder, while in the east and west the annual averages are higher. Therefore, topography directly influences rainfall throughout the year, but especially in autumn and winter there are many orographic rains and drizzles in the east and center.
