At 1915, during Japanese rule, Shi Kun-Shan (施坤山), the largest timber merchant in Taiwan, bought the house and repaired it. Now the residence is the only existing [Sanheyuan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanheyuan) in the Tamsui Old Street area.
