Description

Lachnus padi Hartig, 1841 nomen dubium

Lachnus padi Hartig, 1841: 368 (nomen dubium —Eastop & Hille Ris Lambers, 1972: 237). HOLOTYPE: (361 [6.11]), Prunus padus.

Lachnus pyri (Hartig, 1841) (misspelling— Rudow, 1875: 77, “ P. padus ” identified as host).

Pterochloroides persicae (Cholodkovsky, 1898) (misapplied junior synonym—Börner, 1952: 47, “Syn.?”).

Specimen. A single pinned alate collected on May 15, 1836 from Prunus padus in Tiergarten, Berlin, Germany.

Remarks. The specimen does not belong to the genus Lachnus. Its antennae are longer than its body, its secondary rhinaria are transverse, it lacks pigmented wings and it appears to have a waxy secretion on its legs and antennae. It is our opinion instead that the specimen belongs to the genus Euceraphis (Walker, 1870). Confirmation of its identity is needed, but it is clear that its synonymy with Pterchloroides persicae (Cholodkovsky, 1898) as proposed by Börner (1952) is incorrect.
