Omics Data Publishing to International Repositories from Australia

  • 1. Australian BioCommons

Description

Submission of 'omics data and associated contextual metadata to global data repositories such as those identified by the Global BioData Coalition or ELIXIR as Core Data Resources or Deposition Databases is considered best practice when to comes the long term preservation and subsequent findability and reusability of these data.

 This report includes:

  1. A summary of the challenges in data and metadata submission to some of these global repositories by Australian-based researchers. These challenges have been identified through various consultations of the Australian life science research community by the Australian BioCommons.
  2. A set of recommendations for how to address these challenges and make it easier for Australian-based researchers to submit data to these repositories.

The recommendations form a blueprint for how the Australian BioCommons propose to address the current data submission challenges through a variety of means (including collaboratively working with various global repositories to improve documentation, helping to make training resources more findable for Australian based researchers, offering local training opportunities, and in selected circumstances, deployment of local services to enable data/metadata submission)
