A Melody Input Support Interface by Presenting Subsequent Candidates based on a Connection Cost
Creators
Description
In this paper, we propose a melody input support interface that presents multiple existing melody fragments as subsequent candidate melodies for the melody being created, enabling their reuse. The proposed interface uses the connection cost between melody fragments based on BiLSTM, suggested by the authors, as a criterion for presenting subsequent candidate melodies or notes when the user is stuck or requires new ideas during melody composition. Specifically, we assume a melody composition situation where the user inputs melodies onto a piano roll, and propose an interface that searches for and presents subsequent candidate melodies or notes from a database consisting of existing melodies based on the melody input by the user. We conducted a user study of melody composition using the proposed interface, and evaluated the effectiveness of the interface as well as the quality of the melodies produced. The results confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed interface.
