- Novantinoe Santos-Silva and Hovore, 2007 includes 35 species distributed from Mexico to South America (Monne 2015). Currently, only N. cribristernis (Bates, 1885) is recorded from Nicaragua.
- The subgenus Grossifemora Santos-Silva and Hovore, 2007 in the genus Elytrimitatrix Santos- Silva and Hovore, 2007 encompasses 37 species distributed mostly in Mexico and Central America, with only Elytrimitatrix (Grossifemora) charpentierae Le Tirant and Santos-Silva, 2014 occurring in South America (Peru) (Monne 2015). Currently, 18 species are recorded in Mexico, the country with the greatest number of species.
- The elytral color pattern of many species of Grossifemora, and also some of Novantinoe, is very similar. The color pattern of these species can be described as mostly light brown with dark brown to black maculae. These maculae are mainly distributed as follows, but often are partially absent in some specimens: triangular or subcircular area surrounding scutellum; narrow band along suture, frequently not reaching apex; oblique band on basal half, downward from the side to the suture; variable macula on distal half, often upward from the side to the suture. This common pattern makes the identification of these species more difficult and frequently leads to misidentification (most commonly as Elytrimitatrix (Grossifemora) lineatopora (Bates, 1880)).
- The following species of American Disteniinae have this elytral color pattern (see photographs in Bezark 2015): Elytrimitatrix (Grossifemora) bispinosa Santos-Silva and Hovore, 2008; Elytrimitatrix (Grossifemora) guatemalana Santos- Silva and Hovore, 2008 (Fig. 20); Elytrimitatrix (Grossifemora) hondurenha Santos-Silva and Hovore, 2008 (Fig. 17); Elytrimitatrix (Grossifemora) irregularis (Linsley, 1935) (Figs. 18-19); E. lineatopora; Elytrimitatrix (Grossifemora) linsleyi Santos-Silva and Hovore, 2008; Elytrimitatrix (Grossifemora) pubescens Santos-Silva and Hovore, 2008; Elytrimitatrix (Grossifemora) sauria Santos- Silva and Hovore, 2008; Novantinoe fulvopicta (Bates, 1885); Novantinoe cristinae Santos-Silva and Hovore, 2007 (Fig. 12); and Novantinoe thomasi Santos-Silva and Hovore, 2007. Two of the new species herein described also have this elytral color pattern.
