Description

Scoring approach for the European Ocean Observing and Forecasting System (EOOFS):

This approach is developed to evaluate the European ocean observing and forecasting system's readiness in monitoring ocean phenomena and threats.
It is proposed to be used to assess the evolution of the European ocean observing and forecasting system in monitoring these phenomena and if the Readiness Level (RL) is improving or not.

This effort is part of the Task 1.5 of WP1 in the EuroSea project.
Task 1.5, entitled "Gap analysis of European Ocean Observing and Forecasting System", is led by GEOMAR, and has the IOC-UNESCO and EuroGOOS as partners.
The aim of T1.5 is to identify the gaps in the European ocean observing and forecasting system and to provide recommendations for the different actors in ocean observing and European policymakers on the most urgent next steps in the development of an integrated European Ocean Observing and Forecasting system.
The proposed scoring approach will be one of the suggested tools to monitor the progress of the European ocean observing and forecasting system.

In this scoring approach, other important value chain items (i.e., Communication, management, awareness, policies, etc.) were excluded but are elaborated in the detailed report of T1.5 (namely in the deliverable D1.9 that will be published here).
