Pre -bunking - the pro-active approach to combating disinformation

The aim of this Open Education Resource (OER) is to introduce the concept of "pre-bunking," a proactive strategy for countering disinformation. Pre-bunking is likened to a vaccine, where individuals are exposed to simulated disinformation scenarios, strengthening their immunity against real-world misinformation. This approach employs reverse psychology, requiring participants to take on the role of disinformation spreaders to better understand their techniques and become resistant to them. The resource emphasizes the importance of creating accurate mental models and highlights the effectiveness of pre-bunking through various methods, including serious gaming, to enhance fake news detection and equip individuals with the skills to proactively combat misinformation.
