Potential AM applications in accelerators
Creators
Description
This report deals with the output of a survey on the application of Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies in the field of particle accelerators. The current applications, further needs and perspective developments foreseen for the accelerator community are discussed.
The document consists of a first part where a literature survey of existing applications of AM to accelerators has been made. An analysis of the needs for the accelerator community is then presented, followed by a discussion about the opportunities offered by AM for accelerators in particle physics and for technology transfer to accelerators for other industrial fields.
Finally, the design activities, manufacturing and testing of a proof-of-concept RFQ sector built by AM are described. The dissemination of this output to the widest possible audience is considered as an important strategy to raise awareness about advantages of AM in the accelerator community.
