Type locality: Mediterranean Sea, near Nice, France.

Synonyms: Dactylocera Nicaeensis Milne-Edwards, 1830; Megallecto thirioti Gotto, 1986; Phrosina australis Stebbing, 1888; Phrosina longispina Spence Bate, 1862; Phrosina Nicetensis Milne-Edwards 1840; Phrosina pacifica Stebbing, 1888; Phrosina thirioti Gotto, 1986.

Distribution. World: North Atlantic Ocean (Bellan-Santini & Costello 2001), Bay of Biscay (Bachelet et al. 2003), Gulf of Mexico (Felder & Camp 2009), Greece (Koukouras 2010), New Zealand (Webber et al. 2010), Ireland (Guiry & Guiry, 2011), India (Pillai 1965b).

India: Western India Ecoregion: Maharashtra (Pillai 1965b); Goa (Pillai 1965b); Karnataka (Pillai 1965b); Kerala (Pillai 1965b); South India Ecoregion: Kerala (Pillai 1965b); Maldives Ecoregion: Lakshadweep (Pillai 1965b).
