Type locality: Mediterranean Sea.

Synonyms: Ampithoe inaequipes A. Costa in Hope, 1851; Maera inaequipes (A. Costa, 1857).

Distribution. World: Mediterranean Sea (Hope 1851), South Africa (Griffiths 1974), North Atlantic Ocean (Bellan-Santini & Costello 2001), Bay of Biscay (Bachelet et al. 2003), Caribbean Sea, Cuba (Miloslavich et al. 2010), Greece (Koukouras 2010), India (Sivaprakasam 1968a).

India: Western India Ecoregion: Arabian Sea (Surya Rao 1972 as Maera inaequipes inaequipes (A. Costa, 1857)); South India Ecoregion: Tamil Nadu (Sivaprakasam 1966 as Maera inaequipes inaequipes (A. Costa, 1857); Sivaprakasam 1968a as Maera inaequipes inaequipes (A. Costa, 1857)); Northern Bay of Bengal Ecoregion: Bay of Bengal (Surya Rao 1972 as Maera inaequipes inaequipes (A. Costa, 1857)).
