Synonyms: Brachyscelus acuticaudatus Stebbing, 1888; Brachyscelus mediterranea Senna 1903; Brachyscelus mediterraneus Chevreux 1900; Brachyscelus stebbingi Boone, 1935.

Distribution. World: North Atlantic Ocean (Bellan-Santini & Costello 2001), Bay of Biscay (Bachelet et al. 2003), Gulf of Mexico (Felder & Camp 2009), Greece (Koukouras 2010), New Zealand (Webber et al. 2010), Ireland (Guiry & Guiry 2011), India (Pillai 1965b).

India: Western India Ecoregion: Gujarat (Pillai 1965b); Maharashtra (Pillai 1965b); Goa (Pillai 1965b); Kerala (Pillai 1965b); South India Ecoregion: Kerala (Pillai 1965b); Tamil Nadu (Pillai 1965b); Maldives Ecoregion: Lakshadweep (Pillai 1965b); Eastern India Ecoregion: Tamil Nadu (Nayar 1959; Venkataraman 2007); Andaman and Nicobar Islands Ecoregion: Andaman and Nicobar Islands (Pal et al. 2010).
