Type locality: Cocos Islands and near the Seychelles, Tropical Indian Ocean.
Synonyms: Thaumatops magna Woltereck, 1903.
Distribution. World: Tropical Indian Ocean (Woltereck 1903), New Zealand (Webber et al. 2010), North Atlantic Ocean, North Indian Ocean, South Indian Ocean, Central Indo-Pacific Ocean, North Pacific Ocean, South Pacific Ocean, Tasman Sea, India (Zeidler 2003).
