Description
A new moitessieriid species, Moitessieria ripacurtiae sp. nov., is described based on shells from Font de Portell (el Pont de Suert, l’Alta Ribagorça, Catalonia, Spain). Compared to other species from the same genus, the new species is characterized by small size, a moderately robust shell shape, a low number of whorls, deep sutures and a teleoconch ornamentation constituted by spirally-arranged pits. Among the previously-known species of this genus, it most closely resembles M. aurea, M. foui, M. heideae, M. locardi and M. rhodani. However, M. ripacurtiae sp. nov. differs from these and other species in a unique combination of features. The description of this new species represents the nineteenth Moitessieria known from Catalonia, from the more than thirty valid species of this genus.
