Description

7. Carasobarbus apoensis (Banister & Clarke, 1977) ―Arabian Himri― Endemic

Taxonomy. Original description: Barbus apoensis Banister & Clarke, 1977:113, fig. 1 [Permanent stream near Khamis Mushyat, 18°17’N, 42°34’E, Saudi Arabia; Holotype: BMNH 1976.4.7.166]. Synonyms: None.

Status in the Arabian Peninsula. Recorded from Saudi Arabia in original description by Banister & Clarke (1977); confirmed by Borkenhagen & Krupp (2013) and Freyhof et al. (2020).

General distribution. Hijaz mountain range, Saudi Arabia. Habitat: freshwater.

Distribution in the Arabian Peninsula: Saudi Arabia: Khamis Mushyat, Wadi Turabah near At Ţaif, Wadi Adamah, Wadi Habayaba, and Wadi Buwah (Borkenhagen & Krupp 2013; Freyhof et al. 2020).

Economic importance. Locally consumed, but of no commercial importance. Conservation. Endangered (EN).
