ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPACTS OF INDUSTRIALIZATION IN ESAN LAND, EDO STATE, NIGERIA

Description

The study is centered on industrialization in Esan Land, Edo State, Nigeria. The study used both primary and secondary data for its finding. The study revealed that industrial activities in the study area started long ago even the period of trade by barter where producers exchange their produce for what they needed and could not produce. Also revealed in the study are the types of industries that are found in the study area which include primary, secondary and the tertiary industries. The study also showed the locational pattern of the industries, the locational factors, and the impact of the industries, the problems include electricity which has the highest percentage of locational problems of 16.8%, roads accounts for 15.1% , poor farm yield  account for 14.8% among others  and recommendations made include The rural settlements in the study area where agriculture is the basic occupation, should be properly developed with provision of basic infrastructural facilities such as electricity, good roads, water supply and medical services. Potential investors should be provided with soft loans by the various banks charged with the responsibility of providing loans for industrial development.  The rural industries should also be protected against unhealthy competition from larger firm producing the same or similar products
