Description

There are different ideas in Bolivia associated to afrobolivian people. Among them, the most important one refers to their disappearance from Potosí because they couldn´t bear the cold climate and the extraordinary height of the puna area, or as result of a biological miscegenation processes (Crespo Rodas, 1977; Angola Maconde, 2010). In this work, framed within Cultural Studies, I try to address the historical constitution of the Afrodescendant political subject of Bolivia by beginning to answer how the idea of its disappearance began to take shape. In this way, I take up the black politics cycles idea (Lao-Montes, 2009) to reconstruct the black politics cycles in Bolivia. Therefor I establish four cycles that correspond to different historicalpolitical scenarios. Their common thread is the differential status that the Afro-Bolivian people have acquired throughout their history, how they were built by others, and how they built themselves.
