ЗІСТАВНИЙ АНАЛІЗ ДОРОЖНЬО-БУДІВЕЛЬНИХ ТЕРМІНІВ, РЕПРЕЗЕНТОВАНИХ У ПЕРЕКЛАДНИХ ТЕХНІЧНИХ СЛОВНИКАХ 30-Х РОКІВ ХХ СТОЛІТТЯ

The article presents a contrastive analysis of terms of the road-building industry that were common for translation scientific and technical dictionaries in the 30-ies of XX century, particularly “The Dictionary of Transport Terms” (1932) and “The Dictionary of Road-Building Terms” by S. Bulda (1930) After comparing the lexicographic works, the following conclusions can be made: «The Dictionary of Road-Building Terms» by S. Bulda gives much more derivative forms than “The Dictionary of Transport Terms”. The dictionaries are built on a single principle — alphabetical and cluster system. In view of this, in both works there observed a tendency to cluster type of terms formation, especially there are many noun clusters (when adjectives are placed together with nouns), for example: асфальт – азбоасфальт; а. варений; а. природний, а. заливний, заливчий; а. штучний; а. литий; а. вогнетривкий; а. перегорілий; а. плитковий; а. підробний; а. гнічений; а.-сирець; а. бутинований. Thus, there traced hyponymic forms that serve as a means of thematic organization of any terminology, including URBT. It is important to point out that both dictionaries attribute to noun terms a considerable number of adjectives that characterize them. Although some of them (given here as an example) did not become part of the modern URBT. In dictionary entries Ukrainian synonyms are presented together with words that are advisable to be used with them. The dictionaries give a lot of examples of translation of native (in our opinion, more understandable) terms of URBT, a considerable part of which is out of use now: бордюр (дороги) – окрайок, каботажный – підбережний, карьер – копня, клінкер – дзвінчак, котлован – копань, поліспаст – многобльок, резенкиль – над хребтина, etc.
