НЕОЛОГІЗМ, ОКАЗІОНАЛІЗМ, ПОТЕНЦІЙНЕ СЛОВО: ПРОБЛЕМИ РОЗМЕЖУВАННЯ

In the article the main theoretical issues concerning innovative units such as neologisms, occasionalisms, potential words, as well as extra-lingual and intra-lingual factors, that cause emergence of innovations, have been studied. Various linguists’ approaches to differentiation of neologisms, occasionalisms and potential words have been analyzed. The causes and motives of emergence of these new units have been revealed. The main features of the new nomens have been structured. By belonging to language / speech, neologisms are divided into usual (common) and non-usual (author-individual or occasional), the latter can be constructed either with breaking word-building norms or without doing it. Similarities and differences of usual and non-usual derivatives have been established. The specific features of “potential / real” dichotomy have been determined. The patterns of forming standard and non-standard units have been traced. The categorical apparatus and methods to study derivation of adjectives in modern Ukrainian have been built.
