Description

Timber, being one of the oldest materials used for construction by humankind, is considered today as one of the most innovative. Timber and derived materials offer a wide range of looks, from traditional rustic materials to modern design products. The natural look of wood is often appreciated, therefore different strategies to maintain it are currently being observed. Engineered wood products allow the design and erection of long-span and multistory buildings. Use of wood allows additional freedom in design while nonstandard architectural solutions provide a close connection to nature and improve human well-being. At the same time, new developments in the field of wood modification offer innovative products with enhanced properties of natural timber. This chapter provides an overview of recent trends to implement timber products as a façade element. The most innovative solutions are supported by photos of buildings that show the best architecture from all over the world and provide inspiration to a new generation of architects.
