Perspectives of women at the forefront of pre-Inca terrace stewardship in Central Peru
Description
This article highlights the experiences, struggles, sentiments, contributions, and reflections of four diverse women representing four rural Andean communities in Central Peru. Women take on various roles as leaders, innovators, protectors, and knowledge holders of terraced agricultural systems in Central Peru. The four communities are situated within the Nor Yauyos Cochas Landscape Reserve (NYCLR), which comprises twelve districts and communities in total (SERNANP, 2011). The women who agreed to participate in interviews for this research do not represent one particular female view of rural Andean terrace livelihoods but offer four distinct perspectives. The interviews demonstrate intersectionality as they represent different age groups, ethnic or Indigenous backgrounds, education levels, family life, and lived experiences.
