Neologisms in Online Media Publications of Ukraine During the Period of Independence

  • 1. Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, Ukraine

Description

The article examines neologisms and phraseological neologisms on the Internet and social networks that have emerged since Ukraine's independence. The author traces, step by step, the periods of modern Ukrainian history when most neologisms appeared and explains the reasons for the word-creating activity of society. The author analyses the time of the most active creation of neologisms during the revolution of 2013–2014, the hybrid war in Donbas, and the full-scale period of russia's war against Ukraine, which began on 24 February 2022.

The wartime neologisms trace the language of hostility, which influences the emergence of ethnophaulisms, spelling norms, pejorative vocabulary, and new trends in onomastics, including the choice of names for children born, who were named after high-tech weapons.

Neologisms and phraseological neologisms bring new meanings to the media discourse of the Ukrainian information space, develop and enrich the language and become material for scientific research in various fields of linguistics and related disciplines.

In particular, the results can be used in research on semiotics, onomastics, sociolinguistics, cultural studies, lexicography, and media discourse, in compiling dictionaries of the modern Ukrainian language, for screenwriters, playwrights, writers, and anyone who is improving their knowledge of the Ukrainian language and is interested in its development.
