Description

Background; An estimated 300,000 maternal deaths occur worldwide each year from pregnancy-related causes, of which nearly 75% were preventable. In developing countries, 55 million unintended pregnancies occur each year among women who do not use a contraceptive method; another 25 million arise from incorrect or inconsistent use of a contraceptive method and method failure. Unplanned pregnancy can adversely affect the health of the family as a whole, and the health of mothers and children remains a global concern. Access to family planning (FP) is critical to the health of women and children. There is a huge gap between need and access to contraceptive services, resulting in high unmet need for contraception.
