Description

Anania terrealis (Treitschke, 1829)

(Fig. 2A)

Botys terrealis Treitschke, 1829: 110–111.

TL: Croatia, Dalmatia.

Syn.: Scopula borealis J. Curtis, 1830: 312.

Scopula pinetalis Zetterstedt, 1839: 970.

Material examined. 2 ♀♀: Gilân Prov. : 1 ♀, Amârloo, 27.ix.1970, Ebert, Abâi leg., 1 ♀, Rahimâbâd, Leymâ, Samâmus, 1500-2500 m, 6.-7.viii.1999, Ebrâhimi, Badii, Mofidi-Neyestânak leg. (gen. prep. HA-2476, HMIM).

Distribution. Europe; Turkey; Transcaucasia; Central Asia; China; south of Siberia including Primorye, Sakhalin and south of Kuryles Island; Japan (Slamka 2013).

Remarks. This species is represented by two subspecies, A. terrealis reisseri (Zerny, 1932) and A. terrealis terrealis (Treitschke, 1829) (Slamka 2013). In the former, the forewing has a brownish-orange ground colour with distinct discoidal spot and cross lines (Slamka 2013); the latter is darker with normally indistinguishable cross lines. Anania terrealis reisseri is reported from Spain, Portugal and Morocco (Speidel & Hanigk 1990), and A. terrealis terrealis is distributed in France, Turkey, Transcaucasia, Central Asia, China, south of Siberia, Primorye, Sakhalin, S Kuryles Island and Japan (Slamka 2013). The wing pattern (Fig. 2A) and genitalia of the two female specimens collected in Iran (Fig. 3K) match with those figured by Slamka (2013: 219, 299) for A. terrealis terrealis. This species is newly reported for the fauna of Iran.
