Description

The "detainees" at Guantánamo Bay have made more than a thousand artworks that were able to pass the military censorship. This article examines those artworks by Sami Alhaj, Abu Zubaydah or Ahmed Rabbani that did not get through the military censorship but were released through other means. How did the "detainees" circumvent censorship? How do these tactics change not only the artworks themselves, but also our notion of "artwork"?
