  • 1. Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, Ukraine

Description

The purpose of the article is to determine the specifics of directorial interpretations in productions of S. Beckett’s plays in the context of the formation of innovative theatrical practices of the 21st century. The research methodology was based on the principles of objectivity, historicism, multifactorness, systematicity, complexity, development and pluralism; to fulfill the purpose of the research, the following methods of scientific knowledge were used: problem-chronological, concrete-historical, statistical, descriptive, and logical-analytical. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the first attempt to study and analyze the specifics of installation art in contemporary productions of S. Beckett’s plays in the context of comprehension of the innovative directorial vision; the use of verbal expressive means and rhythm-plasticity of the actors are considered from the standpoint of impartial interpretation of dramaturgy. Conclusions. The art critical analysis of contemporary productions of S. Beckett’s plays testifies to the shift of practical and cultural interpretations in the historical retrospective, and thus the playwright’s creative work remains important and relevant not only for modern theater directors and the audience but also for scientists in order to study and comprehend it in the context of modern socio-cultural and socio-intellectual processes. The productions of S. Beckett’s plays considerably extend the theater boundaries and interact with installation art, breaking new ground for the theater of the 21st century.
