Ukrainian Classical Drama on the Stage of Modern Theaters: Repertoire Policy

The purpose of the article is to investigate and analyze the contemporary repertoire of Ukrainian theaters in the context of cultural analysis and to substantiate the relevance of staging plays of classical Ukrainian drama. The research methodology consisted in the organic set of basic principles of research: objectivity, historicism, multifactorness, systematicity, complexity, development and pluralism; to fulfill the purpose of the research, the following methods of scientific knowledge were used: problem-chronological, concrete-historical, statistical, descriptive, and logical-analytical. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the conducted cultural analysis of the repertoire of Ukrainian theaters, in order to substantiate the relevance of staging works of classical Ukrainian drama at the present stage of the development of theatrical art. Conclusions. As a result of the research into the modern repertoire of Ukrainian theaters in the context of cultural analysis, in order to substantiate the relevance of staging works of classical Ukrainian drama, it became clear that the repertoire of Ukrainian theaters at the present stage is aimed at updating not only due to productions by contemporary Ukrainian and world playwrights, but also due to the new interpretation of the plays of Ukrainian classical heritage and the attraction of modern means of stage expression with the purpose of revealing the problematics of the work, its focus on the search for the reasons of heroes’ deeds that are comprehensible to the viewer; there is a tendency for directors to turn to stage adaptations of not only dramatic, but also prose and poetic works by Ukrainian authors of the 19th and 20th centuries.
