DIFFERENT SIDE EFFECTS AND USES OF ANTIBIOTICS

Description

Researchers at the Cincinnati Children's Medical Center and their colleagues at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia have found that antibiotics increase the risk of pneumonia in newborns. This was reported by the journal Science Translational Medicine.

Experiments conducted on mice showed that the mutual "harmony" of certain cells of the intestine and bacteria included in the normal microflora is important for the development of the immunity of newly born rodents. As a result of this "coherence", cells that protect babies from bacterial pneumonia enter the mucous membrane of the lungs.
