Description
This repository contains data and code to reproduce analyses and figures in the publication titled "The ROCEEH Out of Africa Database (ROAD): A large-scale research database serves as an indispensable tool for human evolutionary studies" by Andrew W. Kandel, Christian Sommer, Zara Kanaeva, Michael Bolus, Angela A. Bruch, Claudia Groth, Miriam N. Haidle, Christine Hertler, Julia Heß, Maria Malina, Michael Märker, Volker Hochschild, Volker Mosbrugger, Friedemann Schrenk and Nicholas
J. Conard.
The file contains data queried from the ROAD database on 2023-02-08. For more up to date information, visit ROAD directly at: https://www.roceeh.uni-tuebingen.de/roadweb/smarty_road_simple_search.php
Inside "Kandel_etal_2023.zip" you can find data and code to reproduce figures 15–22. To do so, open the R Project 'road_paper.Rproj' and run the respective R scripts. Each script is accompanied by folder of the same name, that includes input data as well as the resulting figures. The figures are titled
- Figure 15: fig_coverage.R
- Figure 16: fig_coverage_temporal.R
- Figure 17: fig_venn.R
- Figure 18: fig_sources.R
- Figure 19 & 20: fig_fig_archaeology.R
- Figure 21: fig_schedule.R
- Figure 22: fig_white_spots (contains a QGIS project, not R)
The study was conducted with R v.4.1.2 in RStudio v.2022.12.0+353. We used the following R libraries (in alphabetical order): cowplot (v. 1.1.1), gglorenz (v.0.0.2), ggspatial (v.1.1.6), ggvenndiagram (v.1.2.2), readr (v.2.1.2), readxl (v.1.3.1), rnaturalearth (v.0.1.0), scales (v.1.1.1), scico (v.1.3.1), sf (v.1.0-7), tidyverse (v.1.3.1), and xlsx (v.0.6.5).
Figure 22 (fig_white_spots) was created with QGIS v.3.30.0 ‘s-Hertogenbosch. For cartography we used geodata distrubuted by Natural Earth under the Public Domain license.
