Pachygrapsus Randall 1840

Description

Genus Pachygrapsus Randall, 1840

Type species. Pachygrapsus crassipes Randall, 1840 [Type locality: Cuba].

Remarks. Pachygrapsus encompass three species in the southwestern Atlantic: P. corrugatus (von Martens, 1872), P. gracilis (de Saussure, 1858) and P. transversus (Gibbes, 1850). Pachygrapsus gracilis and P. transversus were both recorded for the first time from Trindade by Melo (1996; 1998) and these records were repeated by subsequent authors (e.g. Almeida & Coelho 2008 and references therein). Actually, both records were not based on actual specimens and should be dismissed as they cannot be authenticated (see also Tavares et al. 2017).
