Description
Genus Microcassiope Guinot, 1967
Type species. Xanthodes rufopunctatus A. Milne-Edwards, 1869 [Type locality: Cape Saint-Vincent and Maio; junior synonym of Xantho minor Dana, 1852a].
Remarks. Microcassiope currently encompass four species, namely: M. minor (Dana, 1852) [Xantho] (AA), M. orientalis Takeda & Miyake, 1969 (IWP), M. taboguillensis (Rathbun, 1907) [Micropanope] (EP) and M. xanthusii (Stimpson, 1871b) [Xanthodes] (EP). We follow Manning & Holthuis (1981) in considering M. granulimana (Stimpson, 1871a) [Pilumnus] conspecific with M. minor (see below under M. minor).
