The Relationship Between Globalisation and Culture in the Modern World

  • 1. Borys Hrinchenko Kyiv University, Ukraine

Description

The purpose of the article is to analyse the features of the interaction between globalisation and culture in the modern world. The research methodology is based on the use of structured analysis and simple description of facts, as well as the method of synthesis, logical and deductive procedures. The scientific novelty of the results obtained consists in focusing on the processes of cultural globalisation, which are manifested, in particular, in the field of art, and encourage the search for issues that require their solution and consolidation as principles of cultural policy. Conclusions. It is emphasised that despite serious problems, globalisation has provided positive dynamics for the development of contemporary art, enabled the entry of national cultures into the international context, stimulated funding for various initiatives in contemporary art, and also contributed to the development of the market and mass interest in creative work. The globalisation of culture “feeds” the exchange of cultural values of different countries, supports the convergence of traditions. Cultural globalisation is also characterised by the convergence of business and consumer cultures between different countries and the expansion of international communication. On the one hand, this leads to the popularisation of individual national cultures around the world, and on the other hand, popular international cultural phenomena can displace national ones or turn them into international ones. This encourages cultural figures and numerous theorists to regard this as a loss of national cultural values and strive for the revival of national culture. This opinion is increasingly heard around the world, especially in recent years, when the tendency to slow down the processes of globalisation and the danger of the “overly” globalised world has become obvious. The issue of finding new principles and guidelines for coexistence in a world in which the effectiveness of globalisation, including the globalisation of culture, is in doubt, requires a broad and thorough further study.
