Description

The paper lists 191 true bug species representing 23 families collected from the early summer of 2020 to the autumn of 2022 within and close to the city limits of Gdynia (northern Poland). They include Emblethis denticollis Horváth, Galeatus affinis (Herrich-Schaeffer), Lygus wagneri Remane, Orthotylus tenellus (Fallén) and Tingis pilosa Hummel, all recorded for the first time in the Polish Baltic Coast region, and five other species that have been recorded from four to fifteen other localities in Poland: O. adenocarpi (Perris) (4), Psallus mollis (Mulsant et Rey) (5), O. virescens (Douglas et Scott) (11), Deraeocoris flavilinea (A. Costa) (13) and Acetropis gimmerthalii (Flor) (15). This brings the total number of true bug species recorded in the Gdynia region to 231.

Notes

A sampling survey of true-bug species was carried out at 62 larger and smaller sites in and around the city of Gdynia (northern Poland) from June 2020 to October 2022. It yielded a total of 191 species from 23 families. As many as 86 species belonged to one family – Miridae. In addition, some 40% of the c. 1550 records were obtained in ecotone habitats, i.e. the margins of woodlands, meadows and waste ground. Five species were recorded in the Polish Baltic Coast region for the first time. Four other rare species were also recorded: Orthotylus adenocarpi (Perris), known from just four other localities in Poland – all in northern Poland and three in the Polish Baltic Coast region; also Psallus mollis, Orthotylus tenellus, Orthotylus virescens (Douglas et Scott), Deraeocoris flavilinea (A. Costa) and Acetropis gimmerthalii (Flor), respectively known from 5, 10, 11, 13 and 15 other localities in different parts of Poland. As a result of this survey, the total number of true-bug species recorded in the Gdynia region has risen to 231. The Gdańsk-Sopot-Gdynia conurbation has thus so far yielded 332 species of these insects and is one of Poland's best-researched re-gions regarding the Heteroptera.
