Description

Low input cultivation of industrial crops in land with biophysical marginality can provide valuable resources for biobased products and bioenergy.
Important marginality challenges that were improved with the cultivation of industrial crops in marginal land in the understudy Good Practice case studies include among others shallow soil depth, low fertility and light sandy soils, soil contamination, low water availability, limiting rooting conditions and steep slopes.
The work in this report discusses the key findings for the characteristics of the selected industrial crops and the marginality challenges improved with their cultivation. Following it discusses the level of potential transferability for the lessons learnt per key attribute (biophysical- environmental, economic, and social) and development stage to other European regions.
