The relationship between social capital and youth crime under study: Yazd youth

Description

Crimes and criminal behavior are one of the important issues of Iranian society. Social capital as a very important factor in the occurrence and prevention of crime and criminal behavior can help us in explaining crime and criminal behavior. Using the theoretical framework based on the theories of Bourdieu and Putnam and previous research, 7 hypotheses were designed. In order to test the hypotheses, a sample of 380 people from 2918 years old Yazdi youths have been selected from all areas of Yazd city with a multi-stage quota random sampling method. Sampling volume is based on Morgan's table. The results of the analysis of bivariate techniques have shown that there is a significant difference between the two sexes in relation to the incidence of criminal behavior. Also, there is a significant relationship between the occupational classes of parents in terms of the incidence of criminal behavior of young people. The results of the multivariate regression technique showed that 5 variables of satisfaction and intimacy in the neighborhood, participation in preventing crime in the neighborhood, social network, social trust, father's education and mother's education were able to explain 32% of the changes in youth criminal behavior.
