COMBINED DENTAL AND EYE PATHOLOGY

Description

A significant number of combined pathologies of the dental system and the eye are known: neuralgia with pain radiating to the eye, vasomotor disorders accompanied by conjunctival hyperemia, hypo- and hypersecretion of saliva and lacrimal fluid, motor disorders that involve the motor apparatus of the eye, general neurotrophic lesions of the dental system and the eye . Changes in the eye often occur with dental diseases such as caries, periodontitis, periostitis, abscesses, gangrene, periodontal disease, granulomas. With dental granulomas and chronic periodontal inflammation, the terminal endings of not only the trigeminal, but also the sympathetic nerve are irritated, which causes a pathological reflex effect on the eye and other organs. Foci of pathological irritation may occur after the treatment of pulpless teeth, sealed or covered with metal crowns. There are known cases of development of paralysis of accommodation of odontogenic origin.
