The article reviews the literature, analyzes the reasons for the prevalence of gallstone disease among the population, especially among the elderly. The risk factors of gallstone disease, their early detection, treatment and prevention are described. Defects and weaknesses in this area are pointed out while solutions are discussed. Preventive and prophylactic practical and scientific directions have been proven.
