Description

Dicrostonyx unalascensis Merriam, 1900. Proc. Washington Acad. Sci., 2:25.

TYPE LOCALITY: USA, Alaska, Umnak Island.

DISTRIBUTION: Umnak and Unalaska islands of Aleutian Archipelago, Alaska, USA.

SYNONYMS: stevensoni.

COMMENTS: Only species of Dicrostonyx to lack molt to white winter pelage and acquistion of snow claws (see Rausch and Rausch, 1972).
