TYPE LOCALITY: Guatemala, Coban.
DISTRIBUTION: SE Tobasco (Mexico) south to NW Colombia.
SYNONYMS: chiriquensis Enders, crassirostris Goldman, fuscatus J. A. Allen, griseus Merriam, lepturus Merriam, longicaudatus Gray, nigricaudatus Goodwin, panamensis Goldman, planifrons Goldman, psakastus Dickey, repens Bangs, subaffinis Goldman, temporalis Goldman, underwoodi Goodwin, zonalis Goldman.
COMMENTS: Subgenus Heteromys. Partial revisions by Goodwin (1969) and Rogers and Schmidly (1982); subspecies listed by Hall (1981).
