Big data analytics is a form of digital transformation that has changed activities within various sectors globally. It has shifted the process of decision-making within organizations to focus on ensuring that the decisions that manages and leaders within different sectors make are informed by availability of adequate and useful information. Big data analytics has been included in the sporting industry to improve both the experience of stakeholders and the productivity of sporting institutions. It has played a critical role in transforming traditional folk sports into profitable institutions and activities that not only create value for the stakeholders but improves the economic benefits accrued from the folk sports through attracting fans’ contribution and boosting the number and quality of sponsors for the sporting sponsors. This paper seeks to examine how big data analytics have impacted the sports industry. It examines the areas of application of big data analytics within the sector with a main focus on how this transformation has changed performance and efficiency in the industry. This thesis paper further examines the importance and concerns in the use of big data analytics within the sporting industry. It further exploits how big data analytics have contribute into shifting folk sports into profitable sporting activities and ventures hence creating a holistic approach to understanding the impact of big data analytics in a wide array of sporting activities and organizations.
